Weather and climate

Montenegro has a wonderfully diverse climate, which varies greatly depending on the region. The gorgeous Adriatic coast has a lovely Mediterranean climate, with balmy summers and mild, humid winters. The summer temperatures are absolutely gorgeous, ranging from a balmy 25 °C to 30 °C, while the water is a perfect 24 °C to 26 °C. This is simply perfect for anyone who enjoys swimming and water sports! And you don't have to worry about the winter months on the coast either, as temperatures rarely drop below 10 °C. So you can enjoy a wonderful holiday all year round!

Inland, especially in the gorgeous mountainous regions like Durmitor National Park, the climate is a lovely mix of continental and Mediterranean. Summers are delightfully warm, but a bit cooler than on the coast, with average temperatures of around 20 °C. Winters are much colder, often with plenty of snow, making the region an absolute dream for winter sports lovers!

Montenegro is a true sailing paradise! It doesn't matter if you're an experienced sailor or just got your licence – you'll love the sailing conditions here! The lovely, sheltered waters of the Bay of Kotor and the numerous bays along the coast offer safe and quiet anchorages where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the view. In summer, the winds are usually light to moderate and blow from the north-west, creating lovely sailing conditions. However, the bora, a cold wind from the north-east, can sometimes cause strong gusts, especially in winter and spring. So, it's always a good idea to keep an eye on the weather forecasts!

If you're looking for the best time to sail in Montenegro, we'd highly recommend going between May and October. During these months, you can look forward to lovely weather and pleasant temperatures. If you're looking for ideal sailing conditions, look no further than these months! The winds are usually moderate, and the sea is calm, offering the perfect setting for extended, relaxed sailing trips along the Adriatic coast. Midsummer (July and August) is a particularly popular time to visit, but if you're looking for a more laid-back experience, the months of May, June, September and October are a great option.

So, you're planning a trip to Montenegro?

Montenegro is a wonderfully easy-to-reach destination with good connections by air, land and sea. We've put together a few tips to make your journey as smooth as possible, so read on for more info!

If you'd rather fly, you can use Montenegro's main international airport, Podgorica Airport (TGD). It's just twelve kilometres south of the capital, so it's really easy to get to! Another important airport is Tivat Airport (TIV), which is particularly convenient for travellers heading to destinations on the Adriatic coast. Both airports have regular connections to many European cities, so you can travel in comfort and convenience. There are various convenient transport options from the airports to the marinas, including hire cars, taxis and shuttle services, so you'll be able to get where you need to be with no problem!

You can reach Montenegro by car from neighbouring countries like Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Albania. The roads are well-developed and well signposted, so you can enjoy a relaxed journey and discover the beautiful scenery along the way.
