Estonia is the ideal destination for combining sporty sailing with wellness, spa, relaxation and sight seeing. After a long day of sailing, a short walk will take you from the marina to a nearby sauna or a soothing bath in a healing mud spa. And more than 1500 densely forested island invite for excursions in untouched nature with a great diversity of species.
The lively medieval capital of Tallinn is well worth visiting. Here you will also find the yacht charter center of Estonia. Starting points are either in the “Old City Marina” near the old town or from the somewhat more remote port “Pirita”, which was built for the sailing competitions of the 1980 Olympic Games.
You will find the most beautiful sailing spots along the “Moon Sound” passage that runs between the Estonian mainland and the offshore islands, connecting the Gulf of Riga with northern Estonia and the Gulf of Finland. The passage itself is well buoyed in the channel, but great caution is advised outside due to numerous shoals and rocks.
Haapsalu, a picturesque seaside resort, stands for fine sandy beaches, a unique promenade and healing mud baths in the local spa hotels. You will also find a yacht charter base in Haapsalu, in quite near distance to the islands of the Riga bay.
The seaside resort Pärnu is the summer capital of Estonia, a traditional spa town that you should not miss visiting. 10 kilometers of sandy beaches, beach promenades, shady chestnut and oak avenues and a lively cultural life with many concerts are waiting for you to be explored.
In short distance from their well equipped marinas, the islands of Saaremaa and Hiumaa offer historical sights, secluded hiking trails and a wide range of wellness services in the local spa hotels – in Saaremaa just a few steps from the marina. The small islands of Kihnu and Ruhnu are good places for a safe anchorage to experience authentic village life and pristine nature. If time allows, you may want to cross over to Finland in the north or Riga in the south.
The climate in Estonia is moderately maritime, with relatively warm summers (average temperature in July 21°, some days up to 30°) and rather mild winters (-8°). In summer, moderate south-west winds prevail.
