Almost the entire coast of Cuba and the surrounding islands can be navigated, with the exception of the area in the immediate vicinity of the “Bay of Pigs” or Playa Giron. Heading west from Cienfuegos you reach the archipelago of Los Canareos, a 90-kilometer stretch of small and medium-sized islands with hundreds of anchorages. It is worth visiting Cayo Largo with its beautiful beaches and Iguana Island – Cayo Iguana.
By heading east you will reach the largest marine reserve in the Caribbean, the Jardines de Reina (‘Queen’s Gardens’), a chain of 250 coral islands with a stunning array of marine life, fauna and flora. We recommend spending time in Havana before or after your sailing trip to fully experience the vibrant culture of this charming city.
Weather conditions are ideal for sailors. Constant trade winds blow all year round with 3 – 6 Bft., in winter from the northeast, in summer rather southeasterly. Temperatures vary between 18°C and 29°C from December to May and between 23°C and 32°C between June and November. Water temperatures are around 27° C. Rainy season between June and October.. Hurricanes threaten between August and October. However, there is a well-functioning hurricane warning system that provides timely information.
