The Seychelles archipelago, located some 1000 miles east of the African coast, on a latitude level between Kenya and Madagascar, is a tropical sailing area with feel good guarantee. The pictures of a scenery with bright white sandy beaches and turquoise waters, framed up between coconut trees and smooth granite rocks, went through magazines worldwide as a symbol for what exotic means. These pictures are not exaggerations! The reality of the Seychelles offers even more: an island of great natural richness in flora and fauna, colorful coral reefs with schools of fish and sea turtles. A friendly population welcome the visitors, and the creole cuisine with an interesting mix of African, Spanish and Asian influences, offers a variety of delicacies.
The Seychelles – archipelago includes 115 islands. The main sailing area are the Inner Seychelles with Mahé, Pralin and La Digue. The outer Seychelles are passable with a local guide and skipper only .
Best starting point for a sailing tour is one of the charter bases on Mahé island (see below). They are all close to the airport. Before leaving the mainland, you should not miss to visit Victoria, the smallest capital city in the world, with colorful markets and a unique atmosphere. Mahe offers also a total of 68 sand beaches, second to none. There are enough anchorages available, if you want to discover the island from the sea side..
For the first island hopping destination, we suggest to head up east towards Anne Marine National Park. The island group is famous for the diversity of their flora and fauna. Next destination is Pralin, second largest island, and famous for the Coco de Mer “, a palm tree with a giant coconut, which can be found in the Valle de Mai “, but nowhere else in the world. The lush tropical vegetation of the island is also the home of some rare species, such as the Vasa parrot. The beaches of Anse Kerlan and Anse Lazio have the reputation to be among the most beautiful ones in the world.
From there, you may move on to the sleepy island of La Digue. It has been car-free since a long time ago. lsland visitors with their bagage are transported on bullock carts to their destinations. Moving around the island and visit its wonderful white sand beaches between red granite rocks happens either by walking or using a bicycle. You will experience unforgettable views! Good anchorages during the NW monsoon are Coco Anse, Petite Anse and Grand Anse.
